The Plaza Mayor is essentially the main square in Trujillo, and it’s one of Spain’s most spectacular plazas. The square is “surrounded by baroque and Renaissance stone buildings,” with intricate, beautiful facades backed by a skyline of towers and turrets. It’s simply a pretty place to walk around, and arguably one of the more romantic city areas in all of Spain. The main attraction is a bronze statue of the famous conquistador Francisco Pizarro.

The Monfragüe Natural Park was the first protected area in the Extremadura region. It was declared a Natural Park in 2007 and since 2003, it has been recognised by UNESCO as a Biosphere reserve. Monfragüe is one of the biggest and best examples of Mediterranean forest.

The very diverse native plant species are well preserved. The animal species include more than 280 types of vertebrates, including some of the most representative Spanish species, such as the Spanish Imperial Eagle, the Eurasian Black Vulture or the Black Stork, all of them critically endangered.

In Cáceres the medieval streets wind among ancient palaces, churches, arches and more. Walking through the old center of Cáceres is like traveling back in time to medieval times.

The Old Town of Cáceres was awarded the World Heritage Site designation by UNESCO in 1986.

It is also one of the best urban areas for birdwatching in Extremadura

It is situated in the north of the province of Cáceres on the «Ruta de la Plata». It is a medieval town founded by King Alfonso VIII. It has a great historical and artistic heritage closely linked to the monarchy and the Church since it was the Episcope See and also it was a cultural and study centre having three universities in those days.

Its monumental heritage includes the Old and the New Cathedral, various churches, convents, military monuments, palaces and stately houses.

Guadalupe’s Royal Monastery was declared Mankind Heritage in 1993, This impressive architectonic gem hold great examples of history and art within its walls.

It is situated in “Las Villuercas”, are some hills situated between rivers Tajo and Guadiana. It is a landscape to discover its fauna and its flora. Mérida is the capital of Extremadura, located in the province of Badajoz. It was declared a World Heritage Site in 1993, due to its archeological and monumental complex.

Mérida was founded by the Roman emperor, Octavio Augusto, in 25 BC and named —Augusta Emerita—. Amazing buildings such as the theater, amphitheater, circus, temples, aqueduct or the bridges bear witness to its grandeur.
